AFTER SCHOOL HELP
For many years now, we have been helping local schoolstudents achieve high grades at school, by providing extra tuition. This takes place in the evenings, at weekends and during holidays, and supplements their regular studies. This can help to reinforce what they learn at school, clarify areas they miss through illness or don't understand, and generally help them stay organised and on top of their work.
DEALING WITH POOR AS RESULTS
There is one situation that crops up again and again, which should be specifically mentioned. We have managed to help so many students who are faced with it down the years, that it has now almost become our “speciality”. This is when students do reasonably well at GCSE, but then go on to achieve very mediocre, or even poor, AS results. This is very common, as students are often caught off guard by the difference in standard between GCSE and AS level. It often dents confidence and causes them to face their final year at school with trepidation and under pressure.
Because we have a great deal of experience with students in this situation, we are able to guide them through this final year. Typically, this would involve teaching the AS material, one evening a week, during the first term, retaking the AS exam in January, then carrying on teaching and practising the A2 topics until the summer exams. But the exact plan would vary from one student to another.
