ONE TERM OR ONE YEAR?
If you are retaking your A-levels, you need to decide whether to do so over a term or a year. This depends on a number of factors, of which the main ones are the number of subjects to be retaken and the extent of improvement required. Other factors are whether or not you need to retake whole examinations or just individual units, and whether you need to do coursework again. You also need to remember that some units may not be available in January.
If, for example, you want to retake just one subject, or if you need to improve by just one or two grades in all subjects, then retaking over one term is probably appropriate. If you need to do significantly more, then retaking over a year may be more sensible.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Any student doing a one term retake may be tutored on a one to one basis, as part of a small class, or through a combination of the two.
During the course, facts and principles are carefully explained. Homework is set every week. The material covered is reviewed and tested at regular intervals. In this way, revision automatically becomes a continuous, ongoing process - not something to be left until just before the exam. A mock exam is set every week, on the material to date. This is performed under exam conditions, and discussed in detail in class. By doing this, students are taught to produce the kind of high quality answers required by the examination.
