A-LEVEL RETAKES

WHY RETAKE?

Sometimes A-level grades turn out to be disappointing. Whatever the reason, this can be very demoralising, and it often leads to students being unable to take up the career or higher education course of their choice. Retaking all, or some, of your exams offers a chance to repair the damage. Grades can be improved dramatically, giving you the opportunity to do what you really want to do.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

Students on our retake courses go through a period of intensive study, involving a mixture of individual and small group tuition, and then resit their examinations. This can be either after one term (in January), or after a year (in June). In any particular subject, this may involve resitting the whole examination, or just specific units. The emphasis is on learning the subject material and understanding the key principles, as well as on developing study skills, confidence and exam technique.

STUDY SKILLS

Disappointing grades often arise from not studying effectively, rather than a lack of ability. If uncorrected, this tendency can carry over into higher education - so even if you settle for a second choice course with lower entry requirements, you may still not get to grips with it. Study skills are an integral part of our retake courses. The skills, habits and self-discipline you will learn on the course can prove invaluable for success in higher education. So by retaking not only would you be doing the university course you really want, you would also be in a better position to cope with it's demands.

HOW MUCH CAN YOU IMPROVE?

Students are taught, supervised and guided by expert tutors throughout, and dramatic improvements in grades are possible. Over the course of one term, improving from a C or D to an A is quite common, and even going from a U to an A or B happens from time to time.
